This pair of dangly Matte silver earrings are made from foraged Nettle leaves, which have been transformed into silver using silver clay paste. They are solid fine silver, and follow the natural form of the curling leaves as both they and the layer-painted clay dried. The Nettle leaves were picked by me from a cluster of Nettles growing at the bottom of my garden in Hampshire.
Nettles are a vital part of our native food chain, with at least 40 different insect species, including the caterpillars of the beautiful Peacock, Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Comma and Painted Lady Butterflies, all of whose only, or main, source of food is the nettle. Many birds also rely on Nettle seeds later in the year, including chaffinch, bullfinch and house sparrow (a red-listed species). So it’s not ‘just’ a great source of nutrition or fertliser for us humans, it’s extremely important for our friends in nature too.
Due to the natural leaf variations and the handmade process each earring will differ slightly from the other.

Each earring is made of solid recycled fine silver hung from a sterling silver hook. Leaves are approx 1mm thickness and measure approx 3 × 1.9 × 0.5cm (excluding rings and hooks). Total drop from bottom of hook approx 3.6-3.8cm.
